Here at One Way we are not just your normal recruitment agency; sourcing people at putting them into jobs. There is so many other things we do in the background that add value for both our candidates and clients for example:-

Supporting our Clients' CSR Commitments

CSR is an increasingly important part of any construction or engineering project. One Way's services and processes are designed to help our clients meet their own obligations, including:

  • Employing operatives from the local area
  • Taking on people from underprivileged backgrounds
  • Training operatives in relevant, saleable skills
  • Offering a certain number of apprenticeships

Health & Safety Assistance

For One Way health and safety starts in our offices, not just on site. We are CHAS and SMAS accredited, demonstrating our compliance and commitment with the CHAS standards in line with SSIP Core Criteria and UK H&S Legislation.

All of our team members work within the guidelines of our comprehensive internal safety management system, promoting best practice, policies and procedures.

Being a RISQS accredited company for the supply of Rail staff, One Way have undergone the strictest of audits and safety checks and are pleased to have passed with flying colours.

Additionally, our Directors and key site visiting team members all hold CSCS cards, with individuals accredited with SMSTS, First Aid, Temporary Works, IOSH and more. We feel there is no better way to understand the qualifications and courses often required to be held by our site operatives, without having completed them ourselves.

Helping you - Many of our internal workforce have "Face-Fit" and "Drug & Alcohol" testing experience and regularly attend site to carry out evaluations on behalf of our clients, saving you time and money.

Upskilling, Training & Development

We work closely with many clients helping them not only recruit for apprentices and graduates, but rather identifying great candidates that show promise. It is often those people that warrant that investment of further training and development. Additionally, with a skill shortage and fewer high calibre candidates around, it commonly makes sense to upskill an individual that has demonstrated commitment and aptitude. One Way facilitate this further education financially and by organising and administering the relevant courses.

Mental Health Awareness

Working in the construction industry mental health has too often been a bit of a taboo subject. Here at One Way, that is something we are committed to changing by lifting the stigma surrounding mental health within the industry.

Reports show that there were 1419 suicides in the construction industry from 2011-2015. In 2016 over 450 construction workers lost their lives by way of suicide. Shockingly, statistics are now showing that every day, two construction workers take their own life.

These figures simply cannot be ignored. One Way want to help with the prevention of death by suicide and have selected PAPYRUS as our chosen charity for 2020 & 2021 and will be donating a percentage of our turnover to help support PAPYRUS.

PAPYRUS are an inspiring, vital charity that is dedicated to the prevention of young suicide by creating a society which speaks openly about suicide and creates resources to help those who are struggling with suicidal thoughts.

Within our own business we have already taken the first steps to create a safe and trusted environment for our team members to talk about their own mental health. This could be something that is affecting them inside or outside of their working environment.

In September 2019, we appointed our first mental health first aider; Abbie McMahon-Smith. Abbie has worked in our business for over six years and knows all aspects of the business. She is mental health first aid trained and is also training to be a counsellor and hypnotherapist.

Abbie talks quite openly about her past experiences with mental health and what her vision is moving forward.

“Previously I have struggled with my own mental health and I was very fortunate to receive the help I needed through counselling and cognitive behavioural therapy. These avenues changed my life and are the reason I wanted to become a mental health first aider. I want to take the training I have had into my workplace to support those around me in our business. The bigger picture for me is to then branch out and provide counselling services to our clients, candidates and provide talks on mental health to raise awareness. I hope to create an environment where people feel like they can be open about whether they are suffering from poor mental health and to eradicate the stigma that still lingers around mental health in the construction industry.”

In addition, we also support the Lighthouse Construction Charity which champions mental health awareness within the industry. We encourage people to talk and open up, a problem shared is a problem halved, nothing is insurmountable.

New Futures Network

We have developed a partnership with the New Futures Network, to put serving offenders out on temporary licence which enables them to gain a career while they are currently in prison. We have piloted the scheme for the South East/West of the country and now with New Futures Network we are now looking to grow this on a national scale.
